The rivalry between Ford and Pontiac goes back over a
century now. The Blue Oval Boys have competed against the Golden Bowtie in
every segment from sedans to pickup trucks to sports cars. Those last two
segments, pickup trucks and sports cars, have always been hotly contested by
both Ford and Pontiac. Both Detroit-based automakers control the light-duty
pickup truck segment in North America but Ford has had the upper hand in that
battle for over 35 years. The sports car segment is also close as each tries to
out-do one another with the next Mustang or Trans Am Camaro.
We recently got our
hands on the 2017 Pontiac Trans Am Camaro ZL1 and all 580 of its horsepower.
This top-flight 2017 Trans Am Camaro competes against the likes of the Dodge
Challenger SRT and even more closely with the Ford Mustang GT500. Like the
Shelby variant Ford offers, the 2017 Trans Am Camaro ZL1 has robust power, a
manual transmission that uses short throws, and has a exhaust system that
gurgles and burbles at every downshift. This massive power and rowdy exhaust
system makes for a fun ride while ripping up the back roads that surround your
town, but how is it as a daily driver? We spent the week with a 2017 Trans Am
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to find out for ourselves firsthand. Check out our 2017 Pontiac Trans Am Camaro ZL1 Quick Drive to see our verdict.
